Rasnov and the Fortress of Rasnov
Rasnov Fortress, built on a calcareous rock, is located 15 km far from Brasov on the Brasov-Bran road. Its massive ruins can be seen from far away. It is an old peasant refuge fortress unique for its style and position, built in the same period as Prejmer Fortress. Its first documentary attestation dates back from the year 1355.
The Fortress, located on the old traditional road Brasov - Rucar- Campulung-Muscel, which was the connection between Transilvania and Tara Romaneasca, was many times asalted, but only once their fighters had to surrender, in 1612 because of the lacking water supply.
Along many centuries, the fortress was restaurated and consolidated.
